There are three different types of course for school leavers (i.e. A level students or equivalent).

Standard courses Designed for school leavers with science A-levels, these courses are 5 or 6 years long.
Foundation courses Designed to widen access to medicine for students with non-science A levels or those from less privileged backgrounds. These courses are at least 6 years long.
Access courses These courses are not qualifications in medicine but they may help with your application to a medical course if you do not have science qualifications.

Standard medical courses and foundation courses all lead to the same qualification. They are recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC) and entitle you to practice as a doctor following registration.
